Richard J. Russo, born September 6, 1948, passed away on April 10, 2024, at Einstein Montgomery Hospital, surrounded by his devoted wife, Virginia "Ginny" (Calderone) Russo. Born in Flushing, Queens, New York, Richard was the son of Rudolph and Margaret (Lienhop) Russo. Richard worked as an accountant, blending his meticulous nature with his passion for numbers.
Richard's multifaceted passions defined his remarkable life. A skilled woodworker and tech enthusiast, he possessed the mind of an engineer, adept at crafting both with wood and electronics. His love for adventure led him beneath the waves as an avid scuba diver, capturing the beauty of the underwater world through his photography. A man of diverse talents, Richard's craftsmanship extended even to sewing, a skill he executed with precision. As the Vice President of the Marc Radio Club, with the handle KB3VZL, he shared his expertise and passion for communication with others. Notably, he constructed a magnificent 52" long remote-control tugboat, named Leo G Russo after his grandfather, showcasing his ingenuity and craftsmanship.
Richard's contributions extended beyond his hobbies. He shared his knowledge and experiences through magazine articles, enriching the lives of countless readers. However, one of his greatest joys was spreading happiness as Santa Claus, bringing joy to hundreds of children each year.
Richard's legacy will be remembered with fondness by all who had the privilege of knowing him. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society.
A prayer service, officiated by Pastor Jakob, will be held on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at 2 p.m. Calling hours will precede the service from 1-1:50 p.m. at the Volpe Funeral Home, 707 W Germantown Pike, East Norriton.
